Tracing Our Roots to the Original Caveman

Researching our family history is filled with surprises.  This adventure has even led us to connections with an inventor, new world adventurers and even a caveman.  Yes, a caveman.  Few family historians can boast a connection to a caveman.

We consider ourselves highly evolved.  As my hairline receded, my dad explained that it was an advanced state of evolution – hair will become obsolete.  For most of the people reading this post, our caveman connection is in our generation – a second cousin.

John Lehr is the grand nephew of Andy and Flora Lehr.  His youth was spent in Overland Park, Kansas.  After graduating from Northwestern University, he began teaching kindergarten.  After being entertained by five-year-olds, he set out to become an entertainer, himself.

John is the son of Raymond Lehr.  His grandfather is Leo Lehr, Andy’s brother.

John has entertained billions of people through stand-up comedy and television programs.  His credits include:

As he enters his sixth decade, John has focused on Stand-up comedy, Cold Sober Comedy and coaching show biz wannabes. His Cold Sober Comedy is an encouraging message for other recovering alcoholics.

The descendants of Leo Lehr gather in Kansas for a Christmas party, each year. John has attended the Christmas party over the years.  A standing invitation is open to descendants of Andy Lehr.

I was in theatre classes in school growing up and did local plays and musicals. Having a celebrity cousin was special to me. I enjoyed watching 10 Items or Less and bragging that he was the Geico Caveman.

For a middle school English assignment, we write business letters to famous people to get their autograph. John was the first to respond. He sent photos and a business letter. I also got responses from Erin Hunter and Billy Joel.
